Just as one condemns the brutal slaughter of animals in halal - TopicsExpress

Just as one condemns the brutal slaughter of animals in halal butcherings, Thanksgiving slaughter, western slaughterhouses, etc., and the serving of meat in restaurants, one must also condemn this kind of cruelty inflicted on animals. Sadly, this is just a reminder of how much more society has to progress in civilization. As Peter Singer and Richard Dawkins aptly said the entire world should become vegetarian (because it is a morally superior stance than meat-eating) and if that happens our descendants would be appalled by the extent of cruelty we inflicted on animals. Tiruvaḻḻuvar succinctly wrote that no virtue could be found in a person that slaughters animals or eats meat. Dharma traditions alone explored the notion of vegetarianism as a moral precept. It is imperative that those who are well-versed with dharma and care about ethics speak up against such killings: timesofindia.indiatimes/world/south-asia/Animal-sacrifice-in-Nepal-goes-on-despite-protests/articleshow/45326579.cms
