Just back from the preview of Kurt Jacksons Place project, which opens tomorrow at Southampton City Art Gallery before touring. Mesmerisingly beautiful show, highly recommended. Kurt asked 32 friends, of whom I was proudly one, to write a page about a place that had significance for them, then went off and did paintings of it. I rather wilfully chose not a famous Cornish beauty spot, but my favourite moment on the A30, where the telegraph wires make a lovely, shifting pattern and you get a first glimpse of the Atlantic. He hardly painted the wires at all, but his queues of holiday cars labouring up the hill are perfectly evocative.
