I was walking around town earlier and it was great to see a few new small businesses open but by the time I left, I passed so many closed down places that it was disheartening. I dont mind big chain stores and companies THAT much but if smaller, local and authentic businesses continue to have no choice but to close in the city centre, we will be left with a really horrible and impersonal city. If that rumour about a Wetherspoons opening on Paul Street is true, Ill actually puke on myself! We need to start tackling this high rent, rates, stubborn landlords, nama issues more creatively. Ive no idea how right now but even that Zeero place on South Main Street seems like a good place to start if youre thinking of opening a business. And we need to start supporting small, local businesses more too or we will most definitely be left with a weird, cold, creepy looking city.
