Just caught A Million Ways To Die In The West. For a movie with - TopicsExpress

Just caught A Million Ways To Die In The West. For a movie with such mixed reviews, I feel like my obligatory Facebook movie review is gonna be long winded. This was a really good movie. This is formula adventure comedy, as true as it gets. The elements are exactly where you expect them to be, and this is a good thing. Its not treading the same ground to follow a proven plot structure- Back to the Future excelled at it. The drawback to this films success is not Seth MacFarlanes (well balanced) acting, or his (spot on) directing, but his writing which distracts from itself with (sometimes) unwelcomed cutaway gags and raunchy humor that seems to miss as often as it sticks. Belief could almost be suspended from start to finish if it werent for jokes that seem out of place in an otherwise congruent, naturally funny movie. The most misplaced commentary Ive heard about the film is in comparisons to Blazing Saddles, which is frankly a different film entirely. While both movies derive plenty of humor from slapstick and witty dialogue, parody across A Million Ways is subtle and almost entirely affectionate, which is a world apart from Mel Brooks method. In the end its a film that I think will have audiences divided across its strengths and (perhaps for no other reason than MacFarlanes name) preying on its weaknesses. Try to enjoy it, anyways.
