Just completed my monthly pilgrimage to Alfonzos Hair Styling... Knowing Your From Deptford you know that we had barber shops & beauty salons basic stuff !!! That is until 1967 when a South Philly Italian Hipster settled in on DelSea Drive in the sleepy town of Westville Grove and opened a cutting edge shop Alfonsos Hair Styling !!! Yes fellow Spartans a Hair Stylist not barber nor beauty pallor but a Stylist !!! Al or The Fonz as my ole mentor Chuck Sidlow would call him, has been a Deptford Icon for these 47 years !!! I recall a stroke of genius by Al or The Fonz back in the mid 70s he recruited 2 of the hottest chicks in my class of 1978 Doreen & Connie !!! This out side the box thinking, made every red blooded teen age boy from Blackwood Terrace to Oak Valley come flocking in !!! Brilliant !!! In those days his shop was hopping, Proms,Graduations & Home Comings if you were from Deptford The Fonz or 1 of his 2Angels cut your hair.... Now these days this institution gets a steady flow of customers, but nothing like his hay day !!! His magic clippers have been making me Your Heroic Boy Genius aka The Green Hornet look civilized for 40 plus years !!! I set in his chair, with the ash tray on the are duct tape close & we chat about days gone by !!! So take a trip back to Yester-Year and have clip with this treasure before Alfonsos becomes just another thing that isnt there any more !!!
