Just did a little light reading of NSCA Journal this am. Once again, research study showed that upright rows and lateral raises have a high association with shoulder injury/impingement. I have not put these exercise into a client program in over a decade maybe, but for my fb peeps on their own at the gym, or doing their own programming, STOP doing them. And, please dont say Theyve never hurt me yet! Risk >benefit. Period. PS- Its fascinating- My industry is one of the few where the average person feels totally comfortable creating there own fitness or nutrition programs, even if one has no fitness background at all. And, my advice often competes with the advice from other sources like the big guy at the gym, a hairdresser selling the latest shakes for weight loss, or an old DVD from 1992. No wonder so many people get hurt weight training, or fail to embrace a healthy nutrition plan! If YOU ever have any Q about fitness or nutrition that you are not sure about- please ask! Its better than getting injured.
