Just explained global time, as devised by us humans, and daylight - TopicsExpress

Just explained global time, as devised by us humans, and daylight saving, to an Iranian friend who lives in Turkey. I feel the explanation is worth sharing. Tonga is the most easterly nation in the world in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. And each day, as the sun revolves around the earth, daily time moves on. So in the east, Australia, New Zealand and east Asian countries are ahead in time of south west Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. Many nations have so called daylight saving during their spring and summer. That is, they put their clocks ahead one hour so according to that time, but to nature, the sun comes up an hour later and sets an hour later. This gives extra daylight in the evening which many people like. As Australia is going into its autumn and winter, in about 3 hours we put our clocks back, so Turkey is closer in time to us then at this moment now. That is, youll only be 7 hours behind us instead of 8 hours. This is of course is all arbitrary on the part of us humans. Daily time could start in Turkey but a couple of centuries ago, it was probably the European powers who chose to start it in the middle of the Pacific where hardly anyone lives. So we in the so called east are ahead of you, in daily time, in the middle and those in the so called west.
