Just finished listening to senior player speeches on Senior Night in Chapel Hill...quality is auspicious considering the fact that some folks believed the speakers read on an elementary-school level two years ago. I would like to thank Ms. Willingham for raising her voice when perspective was lacking. I would chastise her media champions for resorting to lackadaisical, tabloid-level effort in investigative follow-up, then vilifying the University for their journalistic examination of her analytic methods. Whatever the ultimate validation of her data (somewhat irrelevant because obviously problems were present and serious), I believe that 1) more folks today at UNC should lose their jobs due to this issue and 2) the faculty majority will restore the confidence of the state of North Carolina and the University’s alumni in UNC’s mission. As I am sensitive to my valued followers, I will reserve my comments for UNC’s most vociferous antagonists for other platforms…it is still painfully obvious that if the fans of one of the many schools in Raleigh (not you, St. Aug’s) would use half their effort in promoting their own program (including showing up at the ESA/RBC/PNC/Oh-That’s-Right-You-Don’t-Own-It Center) that they do in attempting to discredit the state’s flagship school, their own situation would be much better (sad to say, this has been true since at least 1975). I am more than happy to open the conversation about the athletic-academic history at your school if you like, but I happen to have more constructive things to do.
