Just finished reading the biography of the most popular political prisoner of the 20th century, Nelson Mandela-LONG WALK TO FREEDOM. His life was struggle, struggle and much struggle. His story was truly inspiring and teaches one to believe in himslef, focus on his goals and be determined and persevere no matter the difficulty. I followed him as he transformed from a typical village lad, to a royal prince, then a student, an activists, a lawyer, an attorney, a freedom fighter, an outlaw, a terrorist, a rebel, then a political prisoner then his eventual freedom. He then led the his people to fight what was left of the apartheid regime. He became an international icon with repute and worn the Nobel Prize for Peace.... He led the ANC in the first general multi-racial election and became the first President of South Africa post-apartheid. I followed him as I read and always imagined myself by his side supporting him all through his struggle except for some few instances prominent amongst them was his divorce to his wife of 38 years who tolerated him a lot for the first 5 years of their marriage and supported him throughout the 27 years he was in prison. I was heart broken to read the divorce and thought to myself: If Mandela could forgive his sworn enemies who were responsible for his imprisonment after he gained victory, why could he not tolerate and forgive his wife who had supported and fought for him throughout his darkest days in prison? Just my thoughts anyways...I do not judge him at all. Overall, Mandela was a great man who lived a noble course and history would always be kind to him and his comrades! But I wonder if recurrent leadership of the ANC and the South African Government are living the dreams of this great son of theirs?
