Just found this great resource if you have any ancestors that are from this area prior to the Civil War... History of the Great Lakes States website (EnvisionThePast an online library of over 1300 books and other resources – all Free). Their theme is the history of the region once called the Northwest Territory, that in the early 1800s became the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. They have 100+ pages with links to more than 1200 free online books and other resources; many of them rare and valuable. You will find history books, memoirs, travel journals, novels, biographies, magazine articles, maps and more. Anything that looks interesting can be on your desktop with the touch of a button. Most books can be downloaded to your e-reader. The historical time period they cover begins with archaeology books about the ancient mound-builders and ends about 1860, before the Civil War.
