Just found thisBeyond Pesticidesarticle that tells us in depth how useless Triclosan is as an antibacterial-but its apparently quite effective as an endrocrine disruptor and as a pollutant that bioaccumulates in our waterways and environment.Wish id found this article sooner so i could have protested its continued use when it was under review! The awful stuff is everywhere, marketed under sneaky new trade names(if your shower curtain,socks,towels,scrub-brushes, and toys sayantibacterialon them, chances are theyve been impregnated with Triclosan.Despite concerns about its safety, its being used in antibacterial toothpastes(Colgate 2-in-1,Colgate TotalBreezemouth wash,Janina Diamond Whitening Toothpaste,)-theres even a Reach antibacterial toothbrush impregnated with the stuff! Great idea-an immuniosupressive endrocrine disruptor that forms Dioxins-in our mouths!Even better than having it in our soap! Now we can wash with triclosan soap, towel off with triclosan impregnated towels, put on triclosan deoderant, brush our teeth with triclosan toothbrushes and toothpaste, take a swig of triclosan mouthwash, and pull on triclosan- impregnated clothes! The wonderful continuity of such a complete poisoning! And we wonder WHY cancer and autoimmune diseases are booming in all age groups! And why drug-resistant infections are rampant? If the person completing the morning triclosan poisoning is a child,he may escape the poisoned deoderant-only to play with poison- impregnated toys! Triclosan is legally classified as a pesticide-how much pesticide do you want your baby exposed to? The trade names are legion-but here are some of them;Microban,Irgasan-DP-300,Lexsol-300,Ster-Zac,BioFresh,Cloxifenolum in bar soaps,a chemical cousin of triclosan, trichlocarban, may be used.Ill post two reference articles above.A pretty good rule of thumb is to just sayNo!to anything thats being sold that is antibacterial-unless its a disinfectant made with real essential oils(tea tree,thyme,oregano-many are antibacterial)-or alcohal based ones.Tea tree oil can even kill drug resistant MRSA-and it kills bacteria that are very hardy,as well as fungi, viruses, and even bigger bugs(actual insects!)I would add one caveat-tea tree and lavender oils, while excellent antiseptics with low toxicity to humans, may have a slight estrogenic effect-so its not to be used regularly in baby or massage oils for infant males(though i suspect the effect is minimal-lavender baths have been given to babies since ancient Roman times.Though essential oils ARE very concentrated,i wouldnt balk at putting a drop or so in babys bath;these two oils are among the very few that can be safely applied undiluted, directly to skin.So a few drops in bathwater wont hurt anything but nasty bugs!.My cousin finally got rid of a drug resistant staph infection her son had picked up in the neonatal nursery of our local hospital-by putting tea tree oil in his bath-and on the lesions.Oral and topical conventional antibiotics had not worked-but tea tree did.If germs are a big concern,go natural-the greener options often work better.Mother Natures a better chemist than WE are!
