Just four comments (although I could write volumes on ths): It’s a sad state of affairs when wild coyotes cannot be rehabilitated and released back into the wild in Ohio (for political, not biological reasons), but they can be kept as pets. With all the shelter dogs (which would make excellent pets) being euthanized daily, why would you choose a coyote (which do not make good pets) for your child’s pet. The neighbor’s reference to “bad coyote problem” is out of ignorance. Research has shown that in areas where coyotes exist, there is a better balance of biodiversity and healthier populations of songbirds. If you are concerned about coyotes eating your cats, keep them indoors where they belong. Coyotes are natural predators which belong in the wild, domestic cats do not.
