Just got in for the night and want to update everyone that has been following Dutchie. The vet was there this afternoon and looked him over, changed his tape and washed around his catheter, gave his last antibiotic, and talked to us for awhile about long term and what we need to work towards. We will be weaning him off of the IV fluids by Friday afternoon and remove the catheter. Along with the hot and cold packs we are doing, we are now going to start exercises for a lack of better words with him. His lower leg area (for non horse ppl) is still swollen and is bent more than it should be due to him holding in a certain position and dragging it during this time. We will be working on it to help stretch the tendons so they do not stay constricted. We will work the middle leg section as well. Everything doesnt want to move right now due to the swelling but we will do what we can to keep moving in the right direction. He will be backed off of some of the pain meds as well during the next few days. So a good bit going on to help us reach a positive outcome. There were a few outcomes discussed today but we are staying positive and will keep that way until our boy is back to normal. What is normal for him? That part is up to him and his progress. Either way we are not giving up on him at all. He was up for almost 2 hours this evening which is 30 more minutes than he has been staying up. Also, if you were watching you would of seen after I gave him his pain and tummy meds he tried to act like a fool and buck a little. I saw the old Dutchie at that moment and have hopes that I will see him cutting up again oneday. Might not be next week or next month but I know he is a strong little guy and can do it. I cannot Thank everyone enough for the thoughts, prayers, positive vibes and concerns during this time. Yall are great
