Just got off the phone with my friend in LA. Got the scoop on the 411! Lupita Nyongo had been recently recast to play Nina Simone. But then the internets got all bent out of shape because she was too thin and she would have to wear makeup and be altered to resemble Nina since she looks nothing like her outside of skin tone. Then my friend told me that Octavia Spencer was being considered for the role. But the internets got upset because she would have had to lose weight and change her natural beauty or something. Its hard to keep up with the internets outrage. Angela Bassett was too old. Viola Davis was who they decided would work best. Its been decided. Stop production of the film. Get it right, Hollywood. Viola herself said she thinks Zoe will do a great job and she left it at that. But the internets even have a petition. Yes, they are petitioning to have a woman that is Black not play a woman that is Black. Its got something to do with shades of Black and all that stuff. The internets are a great place. They like petitions and hashtags. They are our girls when its convenient. But they arent our girls when the US is bombing them and arming various countries in conflict and dictators and extremist groups. Ive learned to love the internets. They can be very entertaining. Wait! This just in: Beyonce is playing Nina and all is right in the world. Phew. Close call. Beyonce is fierce and a staunch feminist. The internets win again.
