Just got out of a transportation meeting and I asked if there was a long range plan where we could envision attenuating the dedication of resources to single driver, mostly empty vehicles. I wasnt calling for the elimination of road spending, just a long term plan that contemplates gradually spending less in the future than what we do today. The answer was Not in my lifetime. There are people alive today who witnessed the first flight, space exploration, the invention of computers and the Internet, cloning, and bionic people. Its disappointing to me that some of us find it inconceivable that we will be spending less money on roads sometime in their lifetime.
