Just got word that Mr. Michael Obrien passed away tonight....on to bigger and better things, he is. He meant so much to so many! Some of my favorite things include the years he ran summer rec. He would pick up whoever wanted to go run a race and take us to track meets. He ran summer gymnastics and ball before there was any other formal recreation in Watertown. I loved the fact that he had hand grenades in his desk drawer. He did not over use them, but it was refreshing to have him toss a hand grenade at some fool in class. My senior year I was his classroom aide. He assigned me a number. Ha! I was 502. I dont think he ever called me Linda that whole quarter, but at the end of the quarter he gave me a pretty gold bracelet. Deep down he was appreciative and such a gentleman. He did a lot for Watertown -Mayer football, as well. Fundamentals! And he did a lot for grammar and vocabulary development in this little town! One of my favorite quotes from Mr. O was on a handmade poster in his room, Bored person is boring person. You never dared to say you were bored in front of him.
