Just now I saw a conversation on Facebook about Future Islands - TopicsExpress

Just now I saw a conversation on Facebook about Future Islands appearing on Later, the group that a friend of mine referred to as my “latest squeeze” not in a chirpy 70s/80s pop band sense but in an infatuation/love affair sense. However unlike myself the participants of this thread were more than a mite upset by the group – and the focus of their ire was Samuel T. himself and his dancing (amongst other things). Some were offering physical violence to his person if they should meet up. (He’ll be at Shepherd’ Bush in a week or two if you want satisfaction!) Anyway I have no problem with this – I expect being British if they did meet him they would try and find something nice to talk about – like perhaps a shared love of Joy Division. Anyway the thing that struck me was, is it better to be both violently hated and violently loved by different people, like Future Islands or say, Captain Beefheart, or just mildly liked by everybody. I suspect the answer is self-evident. As a further aside the Later performance was a pale shadow of the stunning performance of the same song on Letterman six months ago.
