Just on my way to join the protest at Crown Square. For those that think this is about fees, it isnt. Its to protect those who will be let down by this failing system. To give you an example, I recently prosecuted a case at Crown Court where the victim was 86 years old. She was to give evidence by video link and was ready at a nearby Magistrates Court at 9.30am. Despite knowing this, there was no court available and we were listed as a priority floater, which meant we had to wait for a court to come free. By 12.30pm no court was available and, as the listing officer said to me the complainant is getting distressed so Im going to send her home until tomorrow when we hope to have a court. Thankfully the defendant pleaded guilty that afternoon so she didnt have to come back. But its for people like her that we are fighting, and will continue to fight.
