Just read an article on yahoo about some people suggesting to put an end of teaching cursive writing in school since its dying this days anyway. When DLSU was once featured about having their students use the then bulky laptop instead of pens and notebooks and whatever in school, I was very much impressed and count these "lucky" few students being spared from things i hate most about handwriting, cursive in particular. There is nothing much to be desired if there is at all about my uneven cursive handwriting and yes there was a time that i wished i will just pounce the keyboard to write letters to do away with the hassles of crumpling papers and erasures. Alas indeed my wish came true- Computer, Internet came to my rescue. But I am not into writing letters anymore for it is now hi and hello thing in the world of internet and at the moment i dont have anything yet to wish in placed of the fact why i wished for a thing that is now obsolete. I am wondering though if formal theme notebooks are occupying the teachers cabinets still or are they down sized literally to short bond papers double spaced 12 font size print outs? My memory of how my formal theme notes looked then is nothing but outch I feel sorry for my teachers then and I know how you are feeling right now (follow the red to blue lines please..to my little nursery kids..do you see the lines? do you know what red and blue colors are? lol),,,not to mention its contents. I may not be able to recall how I did then but i know its nothing special. Yeah the most important thing about the composition is the content,,shun the writing. One of the things the teacher has to deal is deciphering a students handwriting and that is not the students problem anymore, isnt it? My thinking back then, but I am still bothered by the fact that I am not good even with writing. So what i did was practiced with my left hand and I would say I am pretty much satisfied with what the less less dominant hand is doing. I would copy song lyrics and find it fascinating and amusing how i fared. And i did not pay a single cent for getting tickled pink for such little feat. Oh, but i did not practiced switching from right to left just yesterday. While rummaging through some old things i found an old notebook of mine dating back in high school- scribbling, practicing my left hand writing. It was not on regular basis, but rather random for if not for that notebook i would have not realized that i have been practicing with my left hand then. But now people would say that i am part of the eccentric minority? Cool, is it not? So who is to say that let us just dig a hole and bury cursive writing because its taxing, hard to do? Come to think of it it requires patience and the gratification that you get from doing it right, for your own standard is rewarding. In this day and age where instant is the fad we can probably do something to snail paced it down. Instant noodles vs boiled corn cobs, what food do you think will make you last longer for a day? But then again those genetically altered land produced are creeping fast too...speaking of talking to the hand for that matter. Anyway my point is- Making people or aiding people to be lazy is totally crazy. Our world is changing in a jiffy. So fast that we missed our neighbors baby is soon to be a mommy. I am for the advancement of technologies but for Kilometrico and Panda Pens sake dont kill cursive writing!! Actually wala nay kilometrico ug panda karon :(..
