Freeman book lover (New Zealand) - (REAL NAME) This review is from: A Turnkey or Not (Kindle Edition) I first bought Tony Levy’s book because I thought it would help me with background research for a book I am writing, and it certainly did that. But it also did a lot more besides. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and had more than a few laughs along the way. This is a well written autobiography of a man who spent 25 years working as a Prison Officer in High Security Prisons and finally in a therapy based HMP Grendon. During that time he worked in four different establishments with differing regimes, been involved in violent situations, dirty protests and sit-ins, and subjected to threats by convicted IRA terrorists, so he’s well equipped to write about prison life. The prison service wanted their Officers to toe the line, not to criticise and not to think for themselves. In other words, to do what they are told, but Tony was never a yes man. Possessed with great warmth and humour, intelligence and tenacity, Tony is someone who isn’t afraid to speak his mind when required. And it is obvious to me that many of the people who worked with him, prisoners included, respected him, and admired him. I recommend Turnkey Or Not to anyone.
