Just returned last night, after four days in Germany, with Steve and Bren. Spent most of it in Cologne, but had an afternoon in Dusseldoff and a drink or two in our usual bar , Fab, at Brussels Midi, en route. Apart from the huge and spectacular cathedral in Cologne, there wasn`t a lot to see, but there were plenty of bars and restaurants on the banks of the Rhine in both Dusseldorff and Cologne. Cologne was totally destroyed by Allied bombing during WW2, except for the cathedral. A whole city razed to the ground - pictures from 1945 are unbelievable. Zooming high across the Rhine in a cable car was fun - even though near the end it came down low over a nudist swimming pool full of elderly German couples. Eeww!! Weather was hot and sunny, though we got caught in two really heavy showers that wrecked my umbrella. It is easy to order beers in that part of Germany, as every bar just serves the one. All the different breweries just make the exact same beer - very strange. Luckily, it`s a good `un!!
