Just saw George Lucas interview on Charlie Rose. From October 23, about 20 to 30 minutes long. Sheer gold. I agreed with practically every sentence he said. What else are you going to go on? Being provoked, yep. But agreeing with everything is glorious, too. I think people hate him for symbolic reasons and for the sequels sucking at times. But he is modest, makes total sense, and let others define him for too long by not speaking up more. p.s. Do people remember watching Star Wars and American Graffiti? Yes, but. Yes, but nothing. Helen Beadleston, I apologize, but he reminded me of you. I was going to say, had the same effect on me that you do. I was overwhelmed with respect for him. (She knows I am apologizing because she is modest, not because she is fat and has a beard. Unless shes put on weight and has a hot lesbian girlfriend, in which case, I am out there with a double frappa wappa before you can say oops, I spilled some. Sorry, Helen. Old habits die hard). He also reminded me I have to trust my own opinion of my writing. Not much backup, but I have to trust it. At my best times, not in the writing, I do trust it. Just when I feel good about myself.
