Just saw The James Brown movie. Many thoughts, but heres 2. Number one, Im hearing folks say it was good, it was ok ?? For me it was 4 stars. It captured the mood of the times as well as the spirit of JB. Number 2. I heard the comment , I couldnt understand the lyrics of the songs. There are only a few JB songs where the lyrics are important. Like This is a mans world., and Im Black and Im Proud, and in those songs you can understand the words. The rest are pure feeling. The lyrics are just notes that that JB can hang his voice on. They are no different than a note the rest of the band plays off their sheets. Because his voice was nothing but another instrument in the band. Now stop whatever youre doing and go see it and be prepared to go on a Superbad ride.
