Just saw the Notre Dame Albany game from last weekend.... one of the most (if not the most) entertaining games of lacrosse I have ever seen. I know Albany likes to run.. but if youre up by 4 goals in the fourth quarter (or even 3 goals.. or even 2 goals... or even 1 goal...) I think you slow up in transition and let Lyle and Miles handle the rock and drain minutes off the clock. The way they play *feels* so dangerous that you could easily run 4 or 5 minutes off the clock in one possession before you get timer on (side note: Id be willing to bet they had the fewest timers put on them out of any team this year) I feel like you dont lose much by pulling it out and putting it in their hands and you gain a lot by controlling the clock, especially when Notre Dame is dominating the face-offs. It felt like an NFL game where someone scores instead of sitting on the ball and leaves way too much time for Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Obviously its easy for me to look at the game now and talk about what could have been done differently, and its really hard to forego a fast break in such a big game, but I think Albany could have iced the game with one or two decent possessions. Just look at their last possession, they drained about 2:30 off the clock like it was nothing; Lyle does a little dance at GLE, you get a couple of possession shots from Feurstein (sp?) and you hold for the last shot. I couldnt believe that Ty didnt bury his shot at the end, but prior to that possession Lyle and Miles might have gone 7 or 8 minutes without even touching the ball. Basically Im just bitter because we dont get to watch the Thompsons again this weekend.. but I think this rematch of the rematch between Notre Dame and Maryland is gunna be another great one, so I shouldnt complain.
