Just seeing the header and sub-header below was enough to make me eager to read this OpEd. — Extreme inequality, it turns out, creates a class of people who are alarmingly detached from reality - and simultaneously gives these people great power.... After quoting super-duper rich banksters and hedge fund managers who compare those who favor financial regulation and who criticize the Top 1% to *Hitler* Krugman goes on to say: — And there are a number of other plutocrats who manage to keep Hitler out of their remarks but who nonetheless hold, and loudly express, political and economic views that combine paranoia and megalomania in equal measure… Krugman righteously refers to F.D.R.’s famous 1936 Madison Square Garden speech, in which he spoke of the hatred he faced from the forces of organized money, and declared, I welcome their hatred, which IMHO would have a lot more punch if his criticisms of Obama werent so slight and lightly delivered as he gives this president more credit than I would ever do (but Krugman does that all too often, alas). Nevertheless, I agree wholeheartedly with his wrap up - at least insofar as REAL *Progressives* are concerned: — Like F.D.R., both he and progressives in general should welcome that hatred, because it’s a sign that they’re doing something right.
