Just the other day a strange thing happened. A woman came into the store, stood in front of the counter and then she said, Youre still here! We agreed we were still here, but then she started repeating it - over and over. Eventually we had to tell her, No, youre still here and we closed ten minutes ago. After she left we just considered it yet another encounter with our very interesting customers. Then, we were alerted to the fact that there is a lively discussion on Facebook as to wether or not The Octopus Garden is still here. This, of course, triggered an existential crisis for us. If we werent really here, how would we know it? And if we arent really here, why do we keep paying the bills? We were rescued from our state of introspective catatonia when we did what any Ancient Greek philosopher would have done - if they could have. We Googled ourselves. We found ourselves on the internet - so we knew we were real. Just as real as Unicorns and UFOs. Imagine our relief. In retrospect the whole thing may have been our fault. Some years back we changed our name. We changed it to exactly the same thing with the same spelling, but it has been a source of confusion ever since. Boy, we wont ever do that again. In truth we are flattered to be remembered at all - wether we are here or not. Lets face it, in this day and age mistakenly thinking a small business in a small town is closed is a pretty minor error. (We frequently make far larger mistakes.) So, our sincere and heartfelt thank you to those who think of us fondly or at all - no matter what particulars may be altered by time and memory.
