Just thought Id share as this is relatively uncommon in horses who arent in foal/weaning a foal. Opal - 13 years old, 15.2 TB-X. Bought her at the age of 4. Has lactated all year round ever since I can remember (not had a foal that I know of), no vet has any idea why. This week, she got mastitis. The video shows a very early stage mastitis. Luckily, shes very good to handle and it was noticed in under 24 hours as her teats are checked daily. Treated with antibiotics, bute and heat... now feeling like an idiot having to milk my non-pregnant, non-weaning mare daily :P In a non pregnant mare, this can be caused by: Insect bites Trauma/Kick injury High oestrogen levels Periods of immunosuppression
