Just tried, for the second time, to read Moby Dick... If I had gone into such insane amount of detail in obscure words as he does (Yes, I know circumambulate but who else does?) or went into a three paragraph long description of one painting, or a page long tangent about the wind, I swear I would have been shot by every English teacher in the world for purple prose. If he were writing poetry, it would have been fine, but I admit it was too much work for me. I gave up. On the bright side, the same volume also contains The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. O thank God for the facile, concise and ironic writing of that man.
