Things Ill remember: Spain not even showing up. I wouldve been more upset if I wasnt kinda expecting it. France starting to pull things together again. Bodes well for them. Italy, England, Portugal, and Brasil doing their usual underperforming. These teams need a complete rethinking. Speaking of Brasil... I dont remember another game with so much coverage as Germany completely dismantling them. Thats going to live on for decades, if not even longer. That for 2 seasons in a row, Suarez will start off with a ban for biting an opponent. Would this not be considered a mental illness by now? Tim Krul standing strong for the Nederlands in the shootout. Mexico and the USA goalkeepers standing on their heads. Ivory Coasts golden generation quietly fading into the night. James Rodriguez making everyone know his name. Costa Rica, Mexico, and the USA, for proving that CONCACAF can produce some quality teams, and hopefully forcing Canada to be better in the future. Miroslav Klose achieving the goal-scoring record, while being commentated by Ronaldo. Argentina, for changing tactics and making the final a far less certain, more interesting, and longer game than I thought it would be. And finally Germany, who I called as winning this thing from the start when in an interview players stated that they wanted to get some silverware for their coach, Loew, and all that hes done for them. For the game against the USA that was such a scrap. For not just playing defense in the second half against Brasil. For proving that while a star player can get you far, its a team effort and sacrifice that gets you through. And for demonstrating that an investment in the future can pay off. Well played.
