Just wanted to let all those that have messaged, called, text, etc. checking on Tony after his accident last week and offering to help with anything on the farm, we just want to say how much we have appreciated it. Some of you have left messages on the answering machine and Tony will call you back as soon as he feels up to talking much. For those that might not know, Tony got kicked last week by one of our yearling colts, just a freak accident out in the pasture, Tony was up next to the yearling colt, he was in between that colt and a 2 year old which was behind him, both just took off and we think the yearling kicked out at the 2 year old which by this point pretty much had Tony pinned between the two of them, and Tony got kicked in the side of the knee and knocked down, twisiting his knee in the process also. Not to mention the 2 year old stepped all over him in the process. Thank goodness he did not get hit in the head. He had surgery yesterday (11/15/13, to put in a plate and screws. There was a considerable amount of damage so it will take some time to get healed up well. He is home now and resting as comfortably as possible. Of all the times he has been bucked off, fell on, run over, even kicked, etc. over the years, and he has had numerous broken bones including left foot, left ankle, left arm, and left ribs cracked, (for some reason all on left side) this was his first and hopefully last broken leg and this accident probably looked the least bad of all I have witnessed him in, but the blow to the side of the knee was a direct close range hit and it just shoved everything on that side over to the other side. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong moment and knowing how easily young horses can get spooked up and bolt, this was just one of those unfortunate events. Anyone is welcome to call him, he is still a bit sleepy today but over the next few days he should be feeling a bit better as he starts to heal. Again, thanks to everyone also for thoughts and prayers as well, and thank you to my wonderful friend Trina Vermillion for sitting at the hospital with me nearly all day Friday waiting on the surgery. I was not expecting her to do that so it really meant alot to me that she spent most of her only day off there with me.
