Just wanted to post something about how much you can do with color - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to post something about how much you can do with color correction/grading - also, a reminder to ALWAYS white balance off the SAME white card...if you dont, you may end up with footage that doesnt match. On a recent project, we shot with two cameras - Sony FS700 and Canon C100. As I mentioned, we used (for some reason I dont recall) two different methods for white balancing. As a result, we got two VERY different looking images. In post, I took the CU shot and corrected it, getting it to look how I wanted. Then I took the wide shot and corrected CU shot into Speedgrade and used the color match feature. That got the wide shot about 90% of the way there, and then back in Premiere, I used RGB curves and the 3-way color corrector to get it the rest of the way. I could have done it all in Speedgrade, but Im still learning it so I felt more comfortable working in Premiere. After all that tweaking, I think I got them to match pretty well. Just goes to show - try to always get it right when shooting but if you dont, you may not be sunk - youve got some pretty powerful tools available to you.
