Just wanted to share my cousins Veterans Day Speech yesterday in Jackson County, Ohio. Love you Tim Halterman and great speech! Tim Halterman 14 hours ago · For my cousins who couldnt be here today, my speech : This is the day we celebrate American Veterans. These veterans include the Malitias of the Revolutionary War thru our returning Iraqi and Afganistan veterans. We are here to say thank you to all the heroes of American history. Do we really think of what these veterans have done for their country or do we come to watch a ceremony and then head to the mall or a relatives house for dinner? Have we forgot that without our veterans, this country could be speaking a different language or living a completely different lifestyle. Would it surprise you that America has lost 1 million two hundred and ninety thousand, and one hundred and ten service men in wars from 1775 to 1991. The veterans administration will add those lost from 1991 till present, at a later date. This will also include women. WE LOSE VETERANS EVERYDAY. Just two statistics show, there are 265 Vietnam veterans dieing per day, and by the year 2029 there will only be 15,ooo ww11 veterans alive. There are statistics for all veterans of all conflicts. I am a Vietnam veteran. WW11 veterans are our greatest generation. I have no doubt our young men and women veterans of today will fill in and become what our nation needs for them to be. But guess what, They are going to need YOUR help. You only need to watch tv, or go on the internet to see what is happening. We are down sizing every branch of service, not not buying needed equipment, and leaving our remaining service members susceptable to unknown losses. At the end of WW 11, President Trumans secretary of defense,Lewis Johnson cut the defense budget to the bone, and this affected the Korean War tremendously. Now, Lets go back to benefits for our veterans today. File a claim at the veterans service office and you will have a wait time of 1 to 2 years for Cleveland to have it completed. Some cases are expidited sooner but this is an average time limit. The new G I Bill is a great thing, however, not all young people are as anxious to take advantage as were their fathers and grandfathers. When they come home, they hear whispers of how their benefits are WELFARE. Young veterans, This is NOT TRUE. You have earned these benefits. We are here to honor 1 1/4 million americans that have died since this country was founded. To Honor their sacrifices, and we need to continue to protect their benefits. Without young men and women to answer the call, just wonder where we will be in 20 years. I am a decorated Vietnam veteran and I have traveled to other communities and seen THEIR memorials. I have been to Washington D C twice, and I would like to see the reality of our Jackson County Memorial Before I pass on. I would love for my children and grandchildren to see how PROUD Jackson County is of its veterans. Please, Buy a brick for any veteran family member and, LETS GET IT BUILT.
