Just watch this. This is what happens when real people, ordinary, worried people, get to ask Better Together questions. Listen to the questioner: shes genuinely worried about very specific claims made by each side about a particular issue. Shes not a zealot. Shes an ordinary, concerned voter thinking it must be her fault that she cant understand. Shes trying to understand. They cant both be true, she says. Will each side explain why what they say is true? This is precisely why Better Together avoid public debates whenever and however possible. Its toe curling. Watch as their two speakers frantically whisper to each other, flick through their papers and consult their iPad, knowing theyve got only as long as Nicola Sturgeon, who volunteers to go first, will take. And then this: The figure is correct and while I understand that if you read it in that context it probably is misleading. Im not going to deny that...You know what, Ill take your point. Its the most positive spin, like Nicola says. And watch Nicola Sturgeons face as she witnesses all this. Probably is misleading. Spin. You bet your life it is - if youre in a charitable mood.
