Just watched, Confessions of a Teacher on channel 4. I now realise teachers, form-masters have virtually no powers of authority in the classroom in the UK. Loaded with rulesnregs. , pupils now hold the balance of power in the class. Unruly behaviours, threats from pupils and parents including physical violence, and in the more extreme cases, two heinous, horrific acts of murder, including one in the classroom recently. I definitely have doubts about teaching in England/UK, where it appears teachers are not protected enough and just tied down and bound by red-tape favouring the pupils/parents rights. Discipline in schools during the 70s/80s was fair, and to be expected if you broke the rules. That system kept order in the majority of schools. There was more respect towards the teaching professionals, and the pupils who wanted to learn flourished. Seriously have to consider teaching abroad, where it seems teachers are respected and protected, and can teach safely, maintaining authority, when needed, in the classroom. Its quite refreshing to see such an honest perspective about modern schooling from an educators viewpoint.
