Just watched a video online of a coticule user emphatically stating ~1-2% of coticules are good enough for finishing HIS razors. What I gleam from that: like many, many coticule buyers we have, he has one preferred way to work with a coticule - namely, The Way That Worked Very Well for Me with No Trouble with at Least One Other Coticule. Lets call that method Y. Thus, in this fellows minds logic, if a prior attempt with coticule stone X yielded amazing results with method Y and without much scientific trial and error with stone X, it stands to reason that any stone that will not yield the same quality result using method Y (the ~98%) is of poorer quality than stone X. He never acknowledges that perhaps using stone X differently than method Y could have produced an inferior result, or that using a different method than Y with some other stone could possibly produce a better result than the stone X, used in method Y incumbent standard... An undying, unfortunate truth of the net age; in the depths of every hobby reside a recurring minority of folks who derive most of their pleasure from letting others in the hobby know how esteemed their subjective positions are, how little out there meets their highest & most enlightened standards. Pick any hobbys hangouts, and there they are. It would likely behoove those espousing this attitude to realize, now, that theyll likely have to contemplate their impending death one day - and come to view such action a pointless waste of their very finite time above the grass. Alas, that scenarios unlikely. Theres plenty of dogma pushed around here, too, yall, but we could always be wrong. Heck, heres HOPING to be wrong, because it means youve just found a better result!
