Just watched wonderful dramatization , Quartet, based on 4 REAL opera singers, re-created by the likes of Maggie Smith (and with a cast including a very camp Michael Gambon), based on a re-union of opera singers who end up together in a musicians retirement home and have one more rendition of the Quartet from Verdis Rigoletto; not the most appealing characters, some of them; but very moving. One important message was, that , DESPITE opera having been appropriated by the upper classes, it was/is meant as music for EVERYONE, raw emotion; forget the silly plots; and the social elitism; opera is for EVERYONE :)https://youtube/watch?v=T5aVtV5r7Ak
