Just watching Victoria Wood talking about the background to her film The Day We Sang. The story has so many parallels with the Glam - children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the hard times of the 20s being given the opportunity to sing in a choir and then having a reunion many years later where they sing again. In a newspaper article about this film, it says Few things irritate her more than the realisation that music is now for a privileged few. ‘I hate the idea that music has been corralled by people with money. It increasingly seems to me that it’s only those who can afford it who can give their children piano and violin and singing lessons, or who can buy them instruments. That’s just wrong. Music should be available to everyone.’
