Just when I thought ESPN couldnt sink any further, it has sunk even further. First Take host Stephen A. Smith had this pearl of wisdom for us in regard to female victims of domestic violence: Lets make sure we dont do anything to provoke wrong action ... we got to also make sure that you can do your part to do whatever you can do to make, to try to make sure it doesnt happen again, Smith said. He was referencing the situation regarding Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice following charges that he assaulted his then-fiance and now-wife (which he did, considering it was caught by an Atlantic City casino security camera). For his frighteningly dangerous and insensitive comments, Smith has been suspended for a grand total of one week by ESPN. Smith essentially blames women for bringing on these beatdowns themselves, and he only gets suspended for one week? He should have been fired immediately and forced to visit some of the thousands of graves that contain the victims of domestic violence -- the same victims he blamed for being in those graves in the first place. Smith has since apologized, which is the least he can do, but it isnt nearly enough. And the fact that ESPN suspends him for a whopping one week for such a callous, insulting, garish comment about women tells us all we need to know about the Frat Boy Network. Pathetic, ESPN. Absolutely pathetic.
