Just when I thought Id stopped taking a walk down Memory Lane my friend Natasha got in touch and asked me to sing with her at Twenty Years of the Groucho Club tonight. Ever since Natasha first heard this she has implored me to sing it at her wedding; that was then, now shes asking me to sing it at her wedding or funeral! The song came about years after I asked the estimable Gary Clark to write me a tune. After a few years wait he summoned me to his Chelsea apartment- where Boo Hewerdine was also present- and hummed me the melody at his baby grand. I was immediately smitten by the tune and delighted that he hadnt written any words. I was very keen to emulate Hal David at the time and this seemed like the perfect setting.
