Just when I was about to dis social media for more wholesome forms of interaction (not really) -- Facebook made me famous (depending on your definition). I cant bite the hand that feeds (my ego) right? No really, check out the Facebook page for Santa Cruz City Arts and guess what you will find ...well, me, or, at least, a picture of me. Even though it was over a decade and one half since Darryl took this photo, it still remains a main stay on the side of the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz. I remember everything from that day (well everything important) -- the trampoline (which was awesome because catapulting yourself onto an old mattress left me in pain for a week), the Bulkhead Warehouse (where I really fell in love for the first time and learned what art really was), and, lastly, that stinky white dress. It may look all angelic and beautiful from the picture (photo shop) but that thing had months of armpit aftermath (mine) before it finally got retired (I hope). Life is a different creature now. Not really better or worse -- just different. Nonetheless, its is still fun to bask in the glory of my younger days now and then, and be grateful that there is even something worth remembering. Thanks Darryl for your talent. I am amazed so many times when I see your pictures and posts -- so understated and perfectly accurate. Reading and looking at your work makes me think of the first time I really read that poem (posted in the bulkhead bathroom entitled a Bugs Life [I think].) At first, I did not think much of it, but after numerous trips to the bathroom, I liked it so much that I wrote it down in my journal, and have tried to imitate it many times. I cannot remember a single word from that poem now, but I know it struck me ... in the same way that that your art and words strike me now. I hope you are well and happy. Always ... love and admiration. jessica
