Juta wants VC’s resignation Shoriful kabir shamim: The news Today/JU Correspondent Juta held a press conference on campus where they reiterated their demand saying no other options to overcome the unrest at the university but the VC’s resignation. In respond to the VC’s urge Juta president said “we can set us in a dialogue only with a third person to make conversation about the present condition of the university”. JUTA also decided to continue the siege programme until the VC resigns, he added. Annual senate meeting, three syndicate meeting and regular administrative works have not been holding for last 10 days as Juta kept lock and key at the administrative building demanding VC’s resignation for his alleged irregularities. Besides, the VC accused the Juta for the backlog of the administration that turned the university into deadlock and blamed them for violating the university act 1973. Classes and other educational activities were held as Juta withdrew their class and examination boycott programme earlier. Meantime, the teachers association also raised their voice against VC Prof Anwar for his alleged irregularities including biased comments delivery against university and teachers in media, destruction of bio-diversity of the campus, abuse of university’s property, unqualified teachers recruitment and illegal admission under freedom fighter quota. Juta has been protesting the university authorities’ decision to not suspend the studentship of a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, JU unit for allegedly assaulting a JU teacher. The teachers had been observing work abstention since April 27 and carried out several protest programmes demanding the resignation of the VC for not suspending the BCL leader. They, however, returned to work on June 20. The Juta had earlier declared Prof Anwar Hossain persona non grata on the university campus. On April 6, Rajib Ahmed Rasel, general secretary of BCL, JU unit allegedly assaulted Nurul Haque, a lecturer of economics department and a syndicate member, during hartal hours. The university authorities, in a syndicate meeting, only gave Rajib a warning of three-month long suspension if he creates further anarchy on the campus. 01930920323
