K FM News Brief, Monday – 01.07.13 Residents of Maako, Nyoka and Mufwashi areas have appealed to mobile service providers to extend mobile phone network to their areas. The residents who bemoaned the poor state of Nyoka road said a mobile phone network is needed in their localities just like in other areas of Kasempa, They further claimed that the economy in the area would be enhanced when communication is available as most people in the three places are farmers and entrepreneurs. …………… Villagers in Mufwashi area have called for a massive sensitization on HIV/AIDS as well as Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) programs to be conducted in their area. Speaking to KFM news after a sensitization program on HIV/AIDS by Kuba Lusa Based organization last week, the residents said it is important to have more information on the disease and getting tested in order for one to know their status. They said the move will help sustain the lives of people that are infected with HIV, thus calling for a door to door VCT campaign to be done as soon as possible if the transmission of the virus is to be prevented. ………….. Kasempa District Cooperative Union Acting Manager says the move taken by government to remove subsidies on fertilizer is not a bad idea in itself though it has been received with mixed feelings by famers. Speaking to a K FM news Luka Saihemba said famers were used to buying fertilizer at a cheaper price so they were not willing to pay more hence the resistance to the move taken by government. He said the removal of subsidies on production was going to be bad because the cost of living was going to be high and commodities would be very expensive, making life difficult for the majority Zambians. ….……..
