KAITLYN UPDATE!!!! First of all I want to thank everyone for posting on my page. You a all deserve a great big pat on the back for supporting us! It keeps our spirits up and keeps us strong. It keeps us going. Kaitlyn said this morning again that she will not let it win!!! We have put a Facebook page together for Kaitlyn. I have been getting so many friend request and I dont know many of these people, so now they will be able to follow her story. Kaitlyns Facebook page is Kaitlyn Style. The reason we chose this is because Kaitlyn said she was stomping on that tumor and now she is boxin it... Kaitlyn style. As some of you know, we got released from the hospital last Saturday afternoon and she had her ups and downs all week, she went to school twice this week, on Tuesday and Thursday for 3 hours. On Thursday night, about 8:00 p.m Kaitlyn was starting to get her bad stomach pain back again and I was doing everything I could to control her pain and Debating if I wanted to call Iowa City again. By 10:00 she was getting really tired and the brave little thing said she would try to sleep. So she layed with her head on my lap on the couch. At 5:00 a.m she awoke again with her stomach pain and said it was going down her legs. I got on the phone with UIHC. ( my motherly instinct was kicking in) I talked to the resident and she told me to give her Tylenol. Kaitlyn and I then went back to my bed, since Al was up. About an hour and a half later the Tylenol hadnt did anything so I called back to the Peds Speciality clinic and said we were bringing her down. We packed our bags for the unexpected. I was not leaving the hospital again until we got answers. when we were getting ready to leave also, we noticed Kaitlyns newest incision, ( for her last tumor removal and fluid build up) We arrived at UIHC at about 10:30 Friday morning and they said they wanted to get another X-Ray of her abdomin. So we got that done and then they sent us to Neurosurgery to look at her incision. The doctors and Al and I were concerned why it would start leaking after 2 months after surgery. They decided to do yet another short MRI to see if everything looked OK. Everything looked OK so they cleaned it up and put dura bond on it, to help it seal back together. The hematology doctor then came down and told us that she had a hole in her colon letting air in between the lining. That they want to get a CT scan of her abdomin also, to get better pictures. Said it was more invasive then what they thought. They said she could eat, but it had to be a liquid diet or everything puréed. So that was her diet for yesterday. They are hoping that this will work so she doesnt have to go through another surgery. Last night during the night, Kaitlyn had so much leg pain, they gave her Tylenol, didnt work, brought up alternating leg pressures to put on her legs, they gave her Motrin then a little later wasnt working. At 6:00 they gave her morphine for the pain. We got maybe 1 hr and1/2 good sleep and the doctors kept coming in.The decided to do another X-Ray on her abdomen this morning to see how things were looking. We havent received any news on that yet. Also during the night When Kaitlyn got up to go to the restroom, I noticed her incision looked like it had more puss in it. I kind of felt around it and I got some on my finger. I called for her nurse and they called neurosurgery, they consulted and decided to to do surgery on the incision. At 11:00 she went into surgery. So they cleaned the incision (wound) check the membrane openings, make sure no puss is getting into the brain, because it could cause meningitis. The doctor came back and said that the puss was contained to the outer edge. It is almost 2:00 and we are sitting here in recovery with her and she is in quite a bit of pain. So that is where we are now. Everything Kaitlyn has going on right now…is blamed on the steroid that she has been taking for the last 2 months. We have been slowly trying to ween her off of steroid. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as this journey continues. Remember you can follow Kaitlyns story also on Faceboolk at Kaitlyn style
