WARNING!!--Graphic Video. I was beat by San Jose police after giving a graduation speech at San Jose State. I dont have time for the media to tell my story today and forget about it tomorrow. Ive done that. I do not have time to make a fashionable statement of protest or to make a sign for justice. Ive done that. Yes. Im radical. I question officers or any authority for that matter because I cannot stand for injustice. The system has continued to fail us. Do you see how my face is on the ground where dogs pee? Do you realize I have to continue to prove that I am an educated black man. Do you see that my dignity means nothing? Wake up!! Its a war in this country right now and all around the world. And so many of us are all distracted. Its who has the most power. And dammit you better stand up and act like you have some! You know I was hesitant in showing this video but if I somehow find myself in another battle with authority where I dont make it alive... then HERE.. I spoke. If I can educate or inspire one person..my work is done. Stop being complacent. Listen to your heart. Find your reason for living. If I dont speak...I dont know who will. Whos speaking for me? Who is speaking for us? Huh!??! Tell your story before they do. And for that I just did. I was beat for questioning officers and released with no charges. Well let the charge BE that the power is in our hands. And what we will do with it... is up to us. Dont fight the old, build the new. There is no anger or outrage. Only love for our youth and to making change for our future. So that we find ourselves making real long lasting change. You want to talk about power? Realize you have it. You want to talk about change? Change your attitude. The secret is a fearless confidence in love for yourself and others. What do we do now? We begin to teach. We inspire. And we spark a real movement. Our loves begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. -MLK
