KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS.SYNDICATED, ENGLISH. 24 JANUARY 2015 Pope Francis & the Filipino children of God LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God…” (1 John 3:9, the Holy Bible). -ooo- PEOPLE MIRED IN SIN WHILE FRANCIS WAS HERE: It is a great pity that while many Filipinos claimed to have undergone genuine spiritual renewal during the five-day pastoral visit of Pope Francis on January 15-19, 2015, many of our countrymen remained mired in sinfulness and pseudo-Christianity, choosing instead to take advantage of the people’s focused attention on the Pope to shamelessly carry out their evil schemes. I know you know what I mean. For example: while hundreds of our lower-ranked policemen braved the crowds who could have easily crushed them in one moment of unruly behavior, one or two of their superior officers were reported to be feasting on the money that should have been used to buy their food and other needs while valiantly standing guard, for hours on end, for the Pope. Then, while almost all of the six or so million people who trooped to Luneta on January 18, 2015 painted a picture of a sea of pious men and women listening to, and pondering on, the Word of God as Pope Francis expounded on them, not one of them seemed Christian enough to pick up their own litter to be disposed of properly, scattering them everywhere instead and becoming stark reminders that they were, in reality, a people who honored God more with their lips, and not with their hearts. -ooo- POPE FRANCIS & THE FILIPINO CHILDREN OF GOD: Of course, this can be forgiven under so many justifications. But one justification might as well be the clarification that, many of the Filipinos who felt it was their duty as devout Catholic Christians to see the Pope even for just a few seconds during those days were in reality not the children of God that they professed themselves to be. Indeed, who can be considered as “children of God”? Without even giving the matter a serious thought, many will be compelled to blurt out that every man and woman is a child of God, which, to me, is in fact a wish that they be considered as “children of God”, despite their conceded profligate ways. The truth is that, not all---not every man or woman, child or elderly---can be called “children of God”, even if they claim with the loudest of voices that they are also children of God. Jesus, our God and Savior, Himself said, not everyone who calls on Him “Lord, Lord”, and that only those who do the will of the Father can enter the Kingdom of God. -ooo- ARE YOU A CHILD OF GOD, OR A MERE CREATION? The question therefore is: what is the will of the Father so that a person can be considered a child of God? John 1:12 is the underlying chapter and verse on the matter, and it says that only those who accepted Jesus, and believed in His Name, are to be given the right to become children of God. All others who did not accept and believe in His Name are not children of God but are mere creations. As well, a person who is given the right to become a child of God is considered as having united himself in Jesus, and is thus a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). His old sinful self is gone, he is a new sinless person, as his sins have been forgiven. This person becomes not only a part of all the other believers, but of the body of Jesus as well (Ephesians 5:30), and is united with, and guided by, the Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17, Romans 8:14), mandated to do nothing but good works (Ephesians 2:10). Surely, those who took away their fellow policemen’s allowances and left tons of garbage in Luneta when the Pope was here cannot be considered as children of God. -ooo- REACTIONS?
