KALAMOS The boat from Mitika Etoloakarnanias passes Kalamos three - TopicsExpress

KALAMOS The boat from Mitika Etoloakarnanias passes Kalamos three times a day-morning, noon and afternoon. Carries a few visitors, few foreign tourists, and countless supplies for cafes, the mini market and taverna on the island. Boxes with paper towels, bottled water packaging, colorful crates with beers and soft drinks filled the bow after half an hour of lading procedures, and boat launches. The cars, of course, have stayed at the port of Mitika. Five minutes later, the high peaks of the island attract the gaze. Tufted pines descend from 800 meters to the slope plunges steeply into a dazzling, turquoise Ionian. Looking in from the coasts, the island seems uninhabited. The two small settlements, the Reed and the Diocese, is hidden on the back side, under thick vegetation and red tiled roofs. As the boat approaches the largest village Kalamos, the small harbor is flooded with people coming to accept them. Logic: most visitors are relatives and friends of about five hundred permanent residents. The others have learned coincidentally its existence, from known stories that talk about a tiny island below Lefkada, which happened and they discover either sailing with some of the sailboats and speedboats filled the small boat marina, or an afternoon cruising the Mitika while loading the boat. The first beach you reach those who fall in love in Kalamos foot-and not some sort of boat-is Periwinkle (photo, right). About forty minutes walk from the village, at the end of a steep, dirt slope, with evergreen pines almost touch the turquoise waters and white pebbles shining in the sun, the Periwinkle alone is reason to board the boat from Mitika. The waters are crystal clear turquoise, the pine trees framing climb steep slopes ca reach the peaks guarding its back, and the shade provides adequate housing for the few campers who have been charmed by the beauty of who wanted to make-even temporarily-their home.
