Maddy told Lisa Bloom she was DEMEANED and BELITTLED behind the scenes before the deliberation . She also says she had a deputy posted outside her hotel door and the other white women didnt. [Don West makes knock knock joke] Maddy didnt understand the joke: I just didnt get it. Who was #GeorgeZimmerman? Why did everyone in the court room except her seem to know about him? Was he one of the lawyers, or the one accused of the shooting? But hed admitted to the shooting,right? So why was the trial happening? I felt naive and dumb from the beginning, Maddy said. I had never looked at myself by color before, Maddy said. The more we think about differences and negativity the more situations we have like this. She didnt think of herself as a minority. Months after the trial, she struggled with the question of whether she identified as Hispanic, black, or both. (Hispanic, she settled on but she also considered African Americans as members of my culture)
