KEEP PRAYING FOR CK! Chris Strawserposted toMatt Strawser 50 minutes ago Whew Its been a long day. I got to the hospital about 4 after quiet time ended not expecting much, but I did communicate a bit with him. He was definitely alert. He just got out of a 2 hour surgery for his arms. I had to wait about a half hour while they brought him back to his room and got him situated. I was not expecting him to be awake right after surgery, but he was. He cant open his eyes and he was in a lot of pain. They were giving him as much pain medicine as they could, but his blood pressure had lowered down to 70/50. They gave him some blood, and the more he relaxed the lower his blood pressure went down, so they reached a limit on how much they could give him to sedate him. He was doing a lot of squirming and nodded emphatically when asked if he hurt. When she just touched him with the stethoscope on his chest he squirmed a lot. It seems like hes extremely sensitive all over, so I cant imagine the pain hes in at the moment. I asked him if he knew what happened to him and he didnt respond with a nod or head shake, so I think hes not sure still or doesnt remember. I asked if the pain meds were working and he shook his head no. I asked him if he wanted visitors and he didnt respond so I dont think hes sure or ready yet about that. He nodded when I asked him if it hurt more to nod than to shake his head, and thats why he did more head shaking than nodding to some of the questions. I asked him if he wanted the radio or TV on and he shook his head no. He nodded that he wanted to rest. He also nodded that he wanted mom to visit. I called her up and went and picked her up and brought her to the hospital. The nurse says that most patients dont remember a day in ICU once it is all over and they try to encourage that with some of the sedation medicine they give them. They had to make two big holes down and in the tendon in both of his forearms for access and the holes are still there and left open. I cant comprehend what he may be feeling right now with all of the staples, breaks, the amputated leg, and the facial breaks, but Im sure the medicine wont be enough to make this a relaxing trip as long as he has to remain awake. Again, unfortunately, his blood pressure is extremely low right now so they have reached a limit on what they can give him and hes going to have to endure for now. He has to be really strong right now to put up with it. Its good news that he is getting better and more coherent, but hes in a place right now where hes feeling a whole lot of whats going on and theres not a lot that can be done until his blood pressure stabilizes. Unfortunately, when I brought my mom back, he was fading in and out, and would twitch and then respond to questions for a bit. The nurse asked him if the pain was waking him up and he nodded. He wasnt awake/alert when my mom was asking questions though. So we left so he can rest. Its for the best to let him rest when he can. We just went home and I came on to give an update. It really makes me appreciate being able to sleep in a normal bed pain free when I see what hes going through right now. Fortunately, if they are right, he wont remember any of this.
