KEEPING CHRISTMAS GIFTS SIMPLE (FOR THE SAKE OF OUR KIDS JOY!) - TopicsExpress

KEEPING CHRISTMAS GIFTS SIMPLE (FOR THE SAKE OF OUR KIDS JOY!) I admit it. My husband and I LOVE giving gifts to our kids. I think its such a lovely way to show love and affection for each other. But Christmas can go overboard so easily, and the present getting/receiving can take over everything. What weve done the last couple of years is to give three gifts to our kids (plus stockings, of course!). They get a clothes present (which can contain one item of clothing or several outfits depending on their clothing needs), a toy present, and a book present. Weve noticed that the best benefit to this system is that it keeps their expectations exactly in line with their experience Christmas morning. So far, this seems to have helped them have HAPPIER Christmas mornings. They dont have broken expectations but instead are very happy with the things we got them. And it has helped us buy quality, instead of quantity. We feel very blessed to be able to afford those three gifts, plus stockings, for our girls! How many pictures of crying kids surrounded by piles of toys on Christmas morning have we all seen? Lots of toys/gifts doesnt necessarily translate into merry mornings. Plus, we have other important Christmas traditions to take joy in - good food, celebrating Christs birth (as Christians, this is what we personally focus on), and being with family. We have seen no need to take away gift giving, but instead we like to incorporate modest gift giving as just one of the many things we do to celebrate a very special holiday. If you want to learn a little more about why we have one of the three be a book gift, you can read more here: -----> thenourishinggourmet/2014/12/why-we-give-books-as-gifts-to-our-kids-and-book-recommendations.html
