KIDEX Sdn Bhd (KSB) stressed that it is dedicated to its ongoing effort to engage with members of the public to provide them with accurate information on the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project. During a briefing in Section 5, Petaling Jaya, Kidex took the effort to also brief representatives from residents’ associations (RAs) in Section 5, 6, 8, 12 and 16. The briefing was one of the many the company had been carrying out since March. After the briefing, Section 5 RA president Mohamed Rafiq Fazaldin, who was the facilitator for the session, said, “With the mushrooming of new property developments such as PJ Sentral, Pinnacle, 8 Avenue and others, traffic within this area is bound to increase. “As a result of this dialogue, I am satisfied that Kidex will indeed play an effective role in dispersing traffic and alleviating congestion for Petaling Jaya residents. “My support for Kidex stems from the fact that already within the vicinity of these developments, the traffic build-up is horrendous. “If the residents of Petaling Jaya do not support the only option that we have right now, we are actually planning for a total traffic nightmare in the very near future. “It is like we are planning to fail. Arguably, there are some aspects of the project that may have unfavourable impact on affected residents. “However, instead of rejecting the project in totality, I feel Petaling Jaya residents should work closely with the developer to ensure that the implementation of Kidex is executed according to the strict rules of Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) and all other relevant authorities. “I strongly suggest that a monitoring body be established to represent the public interest during the implementation of Kidex,” he said. KSB reiterated that the highway project was conceptualised and developed as part on an integral transportation renaissance plan for Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with the aim of alleviating traffic woes for residents within the vicinity, and to provide much needed inter-city connectivity with its connections to seven major existing highways — NKVE, SPRINT, Federal Highway, NPE, Kesas, Lebuh Bandar Utama and Bukit Jalil Highway. Upon completion, it will also be able to connect to Putrajaya via another upcoming highway, the Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (SKIP). In addition, KSB confirmed that it would continue to adhere to all the requirements stipulated by the Federal and State Governments, including the Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies. The briefings for the residents are ongoing initiatives to hear enquiries from residents. KSB is committed to continue engaging stakeholders to ensure that all engineering and construction planning requirements take into consideration their respective needs.
